Join our August 2023 GAVA Discussion on Us -v- Them where we will hear from experienced volunteer leader Christine Spalding about how individuals and organizations create two different volunteer/staff experiences. We will also dive into how to genuinely be mindful and build a unified mission front where everyone feels valued, heard, and impactful. Bring your questions and thoughts and prepare to participate in the discussion.


Speaker Bio: 

Chris, a USAF veteran, comes to volunteering with a diverse professional background. After serving 10 years on active duty in several countries she continued to serve the Department of Defense as an employee in the Asian theater of operations. Wanting to start a family she decided to become an entrepreneur. In Dallas, she opened a catering company that become a national success. After being asked by the White House to return and serve the DoD as a civilian, she sold her company and returned to the military community serving United States Air Forces Europe & NATO. Missing the ownership experience, Chris opened her next company, a full-service, global events planning company. She has sat on numerous non-profit and civic boards helping to drive fundraising, process improvement, team development and community awareness. Her clients have included the NFL, NBA, World Cup Soccer, UN, DoD, auto makers, film studios, foreign diplomats, heads of state and non-profits.

Some of Chris’ volunteer leadership roles have include: Patient Advocate Team Lead for Dallas  Presbyterian Hospital, board member for Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Division Partner Europe/Africa/Middle East American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces, Volunteer Partner to the American Red Cross’ Director of Disaster Workforce, and Volunteer Partner at Large for Disaster Cycle Services, American Red Cross. In her final role at the Red Cross, Chris served in numerous leadership response roles for disasters and global humanitarian responses as well as an across all business lines advisor.

Chris is married to Brian Waymire, USAF vet and aerospace executive. They have a daughter Lauren, who works as a political analyst in the Washington DC area. A graduate of Paris’ Le Ecole Cordon Bleu, Chis is happy in her kitchen creating treats and meals to share.  She earned undergraduate degrees in political science and public relations and has a graduate degree in international relations. Currently Chris writes and speaks about volunteering, volunteer leadership, and volunteer management.
